Will miss you always!

Lost one of my favorite people in the world last week, about an hour after I moved my only child into her college dorm...having to tell her that we lost Uncle Billy, broke me.  Below is the eulogy I delivered to honor him, I hope; I pray, it does him justice in some small way.  For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Sam, Billy’s undisputed favorite niece, Billy is one of 11 kids so when I say undisputed, please know he had a lot of nieces to choose from! When my cousins would ask him if I was his favorite when I’d brag about this, he’d smile and say HELLOOOO! And that was the answer! To be fair, I may have had an advantage though; Billy is my dad Everett’s best friend and my mom Susie’s twin; she is older by 11 minutes because even then he wouldn’t ask for directions, probably because there were no liquor stores or bars to navigate! He lived with my parents 36 of their 51-year marriage and I grew up with him being a second father. So maybe in asking me to speak today w...

Monday, Monday!

And back to Monday!   Weekend was good, took my daughter K to do some dorm shopping, so many things to get, swear its like moving into your first apartment!  K had plans Saturday afternoon/night, so I did a deep clean of our living room since her pile for school is getting bigger and was giving me some anxiety with the clutter, so reorganized it all and made me feel much better- mentally- physically my body ached afterwards!  I’m getting old!  Sunday K and I drove to see her grandfather in Vermont, we took the scenic way which tacks on a little time but is such a nice drive, we were able to stop along the way and take pics and just enjoy how beautiful it was.    The moments I will miss most with K will be our drives, listening to music, singing along, I love when I hear a song that I know she has on her playlist because she got it from me, but also love when she introduces me to some new song or artist she loves.  Music is essential i...

“I've got sunshine on a cloudy day……”

My Girl The Temptations   Agh rainy Monday!     Weekend was good, I was so beat yesterday though, 3 days of concerts caught up with me, not that I was hungover, but my body was exhausted- 2 of the 3 shows were straight cardio – hands in the air jumping up and down- catching a vibe- dancing- Foreigner was much more chill but still did some dancing on lawn! I got up yesterday and did laundry and grocery shopping and then just laid on the sofa watching TV mindlessly till K came home from camping on Cape, then we watched TV together and rehashed our weekends respectively and had dinner.     That’s what I will miss the most when she goes to school, the just hanging out together talking about our days, people in our lives, TV or some random history fact my little nerd learned….just typing that made me tear up, just love her so very much that I want to hold her close and protect her from the world but I know she is going to go off and do gre...

“Somebody save me, me from myself…”

Jelly Roll   TGIF Campers!   Yesterday I got out of work a little early to rush home and meet my BFF to go meet our other friends and head to Great Woods - Ok it called something else now, but it will ALWAYS be Great Woods in my heart - to see Busta Rhymes and 50 Cent.  I’ve seen both artists before so knew it was going to be a good show and they did not disappoint! Got there early enough to do a little light tailgating, Amanda and I have seen over 200 shows together so we have a pretty good routine of what is a light weekday tailgating versus what we do on a weekend for a full tailgating night.  So many people came out of the wood work for this show, I was running into family and friends I hadn’t seen in a while, literally I was cutting through the parking lot to hit the port a potty and look to my left and my cousin Alina was pulling in – that is the thing about me that I should tell you up front if you don’t know me, my Dad is one of 14 kids and my Mo...

“Can the child within my heart rise above?.....Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides?”

Landslide Fleetwood Mac   Well let’s just dive in!   Yesterday, my daughter signed her student loans- they are stupid - like the debt these kids have to go into to get an education is insanity! My poor baby turned 18 and the next day took out her first loan!  I know she is going to be successful, she’s just that type of person, she’s always been so independent and driven, I know I’m her mom but damn , she’s wicked smatt and beauty- not just her mom on that one people will literally stop her to tell her she’s beautiful since birth!  I am so incredibly blessed to have her in my life, she makes me proud every day in some way and her sense of humor is razor sharp and keeps me on my toes!  My apartment is trashed with all the stuff we are getting for the dorm, it's really like moving into your first apartment, plus its summer so we have fans out so that takes up extra space in our already cramped spot- ha she said she’s ready for dorm life thanks to ou...

“…And if I'm being honest…..I'm not always as tough as I seem… “

If I’m Being Honest Kaitlyn Bristowe If I’m being honest I am just trying to figure things out as I go, my only child is heading to College in Boston in a month or so, leaving me home with her cat, Casper. I changed jobs after 10 years, my Dad was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and some days doesn’t know who I am….my uncle, who is like a second Dad, he is my mom's twin and Dads best friend, has been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer, my mom is losing both of her best friends and struggling to be present for them, my siblings all have moved far from home- Virginia and Florida respectively, I have somehow become the go to person on both sides of my family since my Nan and Gram passed and oh yeah and I’m going to turn 50 in a few months! So, with all that going on I decided it was time to go back to things I enjoy, and blogging is one of them! So please come along for what I am sure will be an adventure- ups and downs as I navigate what this chapter of my life will be. ...
